Discrete Skills
The teaching of discrete skills covers computing, music and French at primary level and in readiness for their next stage. The computing curriculum is a bespoke curriculum with ‘plugged’ and ‘unplugged’ units.
The Music curriculum has been created through the charanga Musical schools provider. The academy has created a customised learning pathway using elements of schemes and resources. The French Curriculum is delivered through ‘Language Angels’ an interactive resource.

Computing
- ‘Plugged’ skills – Using technology and digital devices to create, program and solve problems
- ‘Unplugged’ skills – Computational thinking, logic and problem-solving without technology
- Digital literacy – Understanding how to use technology safely and effectively
- Programming and coding – Creating sequences of instructions and understanding algorithms
- Online safety – Recognising risks and staying safe when using the internet
- Preparation for secondary computing – Building foundational knowledge for Key Stage 3

French
- Vocabulary development – Learning key words and phrases in French
- Speaking and listening – Developing oral communication skills through interactive activities
- Reading comprehension – Understanding written French texts
- Cultural awareness – Learning about French-speaking countries and cultures
- Confidence in language learning – Building enthusiasm for modern foreign languages
- Preparation for secondary MFL – Establishing foundations for continued language study

Music
- Listening and appraising – Understanding different musical styles and genres
- Performing – Singing and playing instruments with increasing accuracy
- Composing – Creating and developing musical ideas
- Musical notation – Reading and understanding musical symbols
- Rhythm and pitch – Developing awareness of tempo, dynamics and melody
